All About Face Masks

Promote and Protect with Custom Face Masks & Coverings!

Let’s face it (pun intended) – wearing a face mask in public has now become the “new normal”. Along with other protective measures, like social distancing and proper hand washing, face masks are an easy, inexpensive, and potentially effective way to help flatten the curve.

To encourage a safer environment and cut down on asymptomatic spread of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends all people to wear face coverings in public settings. This is especially important in areas where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, such as crowded grocery stores and pharmacies.

Which Type of Face Mask Should You Order?

·         N95 Respirators & Surgical Masks

N95 respirators and medical-grade surgical masks are examples of personal protective equipment that should be reserved solely for health care workers and other medical first responders. These are critical supplies that are limited in number, so it’s important that they are reserved for doctors, nurses, first responders, and other medical personnel.

·         Disposable Personal Masks

Disposable face masks are designed to be worn once and then thrown away. Single-use masks cover the wearer’s nose and mouth, providing a general physical barrier to protect the wearer and those around them. These may be most practically used in high-traffic workplaces when reusable masks are unavailable and/or employees do not have the ability to wash or change a reusable face mask.

These masks also make great giveaways in locations requiring a face covering to enter. Giving away face masks not only shows customers that you care but also provides enormous advertising value.

·         Reusable Personal Masks

Reusable face masks are designed to be washed and worn multiples times. From cotton to denim, reusable face masks come in a variety of fabrics and configurations. However, the key to an effective face mask is layers. Multi-ply, tightly woven fabrics such as cotton and neoprene act as a mechanical barrier to particles in the air. Fabrics that hold a static charge, such as natural silk, polyester, or spandex, serve as an electrostatic barrier.

Note: Reusable masks should be washed with hot water and soap or machine-washed after each use. Most reusable masks do not belong in the dryer. To avoid shrinkage, we recommend airdrying for best results.

Criteria for the Best Face Mask:

  1. They must fit snugly (but comfortably) against your face
  2. They must be secured with ties or ear loops
  3. They must include multiple layers of fabric
  4. They must allow for breathing without restriction
  5. They must be washable without damage or shape change

(Note: Unless you are healthcare personnel wearing medical-grade PPE, wearing a mask does not necessarily protect you as the wearer, but instead primarily functions to protect others from your respiratory emissions. Wearing a mask prevents those who are sick from passing it on, while those who are healthy are more likely to remain safe when following face covering and social distancing measures.)
